Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) causes the hospitalization of about 91,000 infants per year in the US. Premature babies are especially affected. Ten per cent of adults also get an infection every winter resulting in cold-like symptoms. In the elderly with heart and lung conditions, up to 5% of infected patients die of RSV infections.
