The fourth vCJD case in the United States was reported in Texas in 2014.Exposure probably occurred outside the United States as the patient had lived in Russia, Lebanon and Kuwait. However, there was no record of travel to Europe (including the United Kingdom) or Saudi Arabia.

In the three previous cases, it is also thought that infection occurred outside the United States: Two in the United Kingdom and one in Saudi Arabia.
