This is a case of diverticulosis, not diverticulitis, because there is no inflammation in the diverticula and there are no symptoms. A high fiber diet is usually prescribed to aid in moving food through the colon quickly. Surgery is an option only when symptoms develop. In most persons, the diverticula never become inflamed.
