Koilocytosis is a cell abnormality in which it appears that there is a halo around the nucleus and the nucleus looks flattened. It is a sign of HPV infection and occurs with all types, whether there are visible warts or not. The types of HPV that cause cancer do not cause venereal warts (condyloma acuminatum). Condyloma latum are caused by syphilis.
